History of cars in Iran

Have you ever thought about the fact that what time is considered as today’s cars generation entrance to Iran? or more ever; Have you asked yourself about who has imported the first car to Iran?

Let’s get to the point! The first car has just come to Iran more than one hundred and thirty years ago by the order of Muzaffar – al-din King, one of the kings of the Qajar dynasty. According to the historical evidence belonging to that era; the imported car was a hood Ford which was so close to today’s pickups.

Within those days, the car was a severe sign of the royal family. It means that ordinary people couldn’t even think about having a personal car. As another shocking rule of that era, let’s indicate the fact that all procedures of selling and buying cars have been entirely dedicated to the royal family. Coincidentally, those wealthy traders & business owners who have been mainly through the royal family were the only ones who could own any types of personal cars as well.

The rare carriage is about 120 years old and is made of gold. In addition to the beautiful appearance of this stroller, there is an exciting story behind it. Nasser al-Din Shah on the last trip of his life went to the shrine of Hazrat Shah Abdul Azim. But he did not know that he was going to be killed by Mirza Reza Kermani during this trip. After Mirza Reza Kermani assassinated him, the royal family decided to put Nasser al-Din Shah’s body in a carriage so that people would think the king was still alive. In this way, they wanted to keep the country out of chaos. Now this old and historical carriage is located on the right side of the hall at the beginning of your entrance to the car museum.

Coronation carriage

The coronation carriage is also made by Austrian artists and is at least one hundred years old. This beautiful carriage dates back to the Qajar period. At that time, the carriage was azure blue. Gold has been used in the construction of its exterior. This beautiful carriage had a royal use even until the Pahlavi era. During the Pahlavi period, this carriage was painted black and used in the coronation ceremony. The coronation carriage is also in the car museum next to the rare carriage.

Rolls Royce Ahmad Shah Qajar

The first car that Ahmad Shah Qajar brought to Iran was a linear six-cylinder Rolls-Royce. Built-in 1906, the car could reach speeds of up to 80 kilometers per hour. On the other hand, one of the reasons why Rolls-Royce Ahmad Shah is special is that only 6,000 units of this car have been produced in the world. This car is turned on using the handle and switch and is a very rare version. The model of this Rolls-Royce is Silvergost of the 20s. He also bought another Rolls-Royce because of Ahmad Shah’s interest in British luxury cars. This car, which was a Phantom 4 model, is a very rare example in the world. Only 18 units of this car are produced globally. It is interesting to know that only one of these 18 devices is designed to be bulletproof and this is the same car that Ahmad Shah bought. The car looks like a tank and has very thick glass and a body. However, the eight-cylinder engine could propel the Phantom 4 to 260 km / h.

The car, of which only 354 were produced worldwide, was one of the first cars to reach speeds of up to 200 kilometers per hour. This Mercedes-Benz can be considered as the basis for building up-to-date Benz models.

Inside the Iran car museum hall, two limousines stand out the most. The first limousine is a Benz 600 that looks tall and beautiful. On the other side of the hall is a large six-cylinder limousine with headlights mounted on the bumper. The reason for installing the lights on the bumper was to create a better view. But the important thing about this limousine is the use of six kilos of gold in its construction!

The only car from the partnership of Porsche, Benz, and Volkswagen

It is interesting to note that at some point in time, three of the world’s leading German automakers, Porsche, Benz, and Volkswagen, decided to work together. This collaboration led to the production of a car that was unfortunately not welcomed in the public market. For this reason, this was the first and last collaboration between three famous German carmakers. Now the last survivor of this collaboration is in the Tehran Auto Museum.
